Go outside, nothing blocking the AC. Hmm begin to walk away when I see an inch of ice around the return refrigerent line. Hmm
Go inside check screens. Replaced in May. “Hmm.” (google) clean inside of evap coil, by removing side cover. (Removes exterior), “Oh you MFer”
So unable to fully remove the side panel lets take a look..
Oh dear. This is some JRITS bad. vacuum blowing from the top did nothing. Had to take a lint brush and scrap it off while spraying AC coil cleaners from the top, bottom top again. More brushing, more blowing, more spraying and repeating a few more times. Each time more gunk coming out of the fins.
Much better and cool air.
I mended a thing!!!!!!!!
I do recommend some cleaner spray to help loosen up the gunk in the fins. make sure it is safe for use on plastic trays.

I was just up on a wooden extension ladder that was easily twice my age doing the same a few moments ago. (Top 5 ricketiest ladders I’ve ever climbed, and I’ve scaled some shit ladders)
I really should pull the unit from the window and give it a proper deep clean, but it’s a 24000btu big boi and weighs in at like 160lbs or something so not really what I want to be doing on a 30+ degree day.
I did get properly soaked with the hose though, so that was kind of nice.

Gross stuff like pink or clearish jelly? Got that coming out the side of my WM 5k btu unit. It’s a couple years old. You guys have inspired me to do a more in depth cleaning of it .

I'll have to give it a shot. I just hit it with the hose. Better than it was but not as good as it should be.

I imagine the hose would blast a lot out.

I’m pretty sure if it’s coming out pink, it’s probably alive in some way, and might indicate a mold issue.

I recently went down this route and cleaning accomplished nothing. Getting 3 pounds of Freon with stop leak sure did though. Now to sit and wait to learn whether or not the stop leak did it’s job...
I couldn’t believe the attitude of the service person “wel, it’s 9 years old, might be time to replace the whole system”. I’m just not that kind of person- I’m like “shouldn’t we find the leak and try to fix it and if that doesn’t work replace that part?” And he essentially said “no, we generally don’t fix coils and don’t replace things piece meal.”

You’d think with the cost of the units, there’d be a pressure display Or some other system to detect a leak. And flag it.
Yesterday I had to have it set to 73 to feel comfortable. Today I’m shivering at that temp
